2016-09-17_13-24-40Though people have settled and been living in the Citrus Heights area since the Gold Rush days of California, the city did not officially become incorporated until January of 1997. The city is made up of just over 34,000 housing units with over half of them being single-family homes. The local residents of Citrus Heights are very involved in their neighborhoods. The homes inthe city are split into eleven neighborhood areas each with its own neighborhood association group. In 2008 one of these neighborhoods received first place honors from Neighborhoods USA for their Multi-Neighborhood Project Partnerships and was named 2009 neighborhood of the year.

Activities in Citrus Heights


Citrus Heights is a great housing community known for its hospitalityand offers plenty of shopping, dining, and outdoor activities for residents to enjoy in their off time. Citrus Heights is home to the Sunrise Mall, which is newly remodeled and has over 100 stores. Across the way from the Sunrise Mall is the Sunrise MarketPlace, which is a growing retail community offering a wide variety of retail, dining, and service establishments. The Sunrise MarketPlace also hosts a seasonal farmers market, outdoor movie nights and other special events.


For recreational activities Citrus Heights has 3 community centers and 24 neighborhood parks, preserves, and open spaces. Citrus Heights is also home to several historical landmarks.One of these landmarks is the Rusch home. This home was originally owned by the Volle family and part of Volle Ranch prior to the start of the gold rush. The Sylvan School is another landmark and one of the oldest grammar school buildings that is still standing in the greater Sacramento area. Another important landmark within Citrus Heights is the Sylvan cemetery where a number of first settlers to the area are buried.

Citrus Heights is a great location to live since it is located between two of the biggest employment cities of Sacramento and Roseville. It is also centrally located between three of the major freeways in the greater Sacramento area: Interstate 80, Interstate 5 and Highway 99. Most jobs located within the city of Citrus Heights center around the thriving retail and service industry located in Citrus Heights along with the typical administrative, healthcare and education jobs also found in most other cities.
